Intreo provides employment and income supports through the Department of Social Protection.

For parents and adults thinking about returning to work, training or education, Intreo can be a useful starting point. The service can help people understand what supports may be available, what options might suit their situation, and what steps they can take towards employment, training or further education.

Employment Supports

Intreo provides support for people who are looking for work, returning to work, or exploring employment options.

This may include jobseeker supports, activation supports, referrals to employment services, and advice from a Case Officer.

Education & Training Options

Intreo can also provide information about education and training supports.

This may include referrals to training programmes, information about further education options, and guidance on supports such as the Back to Education Allowance.

The Back to Education Allowance provides income support for some people receiving qualifying social welfare payments who are taking approved further or higher education courses. Its purpose is to help people improve qualifications and access sustainable employment.

Community Employment & Progression

Intreo may also be able to discuss Community Employment referrals and other progression routes for people who need a structured pathway back towards work.

This can be useful for people who want to build routine, confidence, experience and skills before moving into further training or employment.

Income Supports

Intreo provides information on a range of income supports, including jobseeker payments, Back to Work payments, Back to Education payments and One-Parent Family payments.
